When the world’s best submarine is about to go on display in San Francisco, it’s a chance to get in a little crab fishing.
But first you’ll have to get over your fear of the ocean.
The Nautilus is a fast-acting submarine that can carry up to 16 people.
There’s no word on how many people are going to be aboard the ship, but you can expect to see some impressive crab fishing moments.
The Nautilusses newest model, the Nautica, was officially unveiled this past week at the Navy Yard in Washington.
But it’s not the first submarine the Navy has produced.
The USS Vincennes and USS Ticonderoga have also been under construction in the bay since the 1960s.
The first Nauticus to be built was the USS Nimitz in the 1960 and ’70s.
“We’re looking forward to bringing the world a truly innovative and cutting-edge submarine that will bring a new dimension to the ocean and redefine the way we operate in the world,” said Lt.
Cmdr.
Jason Brown, a Navy spokesman.
Brown said the Nantams newest model will be similar to the Nimitz, with a large crew and a more powerful reactor.
It’ll also include a wider hull and more powerful propulsion system.
The Navy has not announced pricing, but the new model should be available to customers in 2019.
The new Nauticas hull will be capable of holding up to 11 passengers and a total of 22 people, according to Navy officials.
Brown said the hull will include “a new advanced submarine propulsion system” that is capable of generating up to 40 knots, which would allow for faster-than-submarine speeds.
The new propulsion system will be built by General Electric.
Navy officials say the new propulsion is designed to be used for both subs and surface ships.
That means it won’t require the use of a propeller to make the ship move, and the new design will allow for a higher-than normal speed of up to 70 knots, Brown said.
The Navy is building the Nats first sub, the USS Sorensen, for the U.S. Navy’s Future Submarine Force.
The Sorenesen is expected to enter service in 2019, although it may take longer than that.
